About Myself

H ello, my name is Dana Shelley, and here is a little bit about myself:

By profession, I’m a court reporter. I work at Los Angeles Superior Court at 111 North Hill Street in Los Angeles, Department 55. You’re welcome to drop by any time! I really enjoy my job. It still seems like magic to me to actually be able to capture people’s words as they fly out of their mouths and memorialize them as the printed word. And I get the chance to meet lots of people, most of them quite nice -- even if they may be temporarily stressed out by having to be in court in the first place!

The communication skills I’ve learned in Scientology have really helped me out in my career. My ability to concentrate has definitely improved. This is an essential skill in being able to produce an accurate record. I also know how to help people who are upset by assisting them to get their attention off whatever is bothering them and out onto the environment. With a greater sense of calm, they are then able to do something practical about the situation at hand. I’ve also used what are called “assist” techniques when fellow employees are injured or ill. These are simple processes designed to help the person get into better communication with his body. This improves circulation and unblocks nerve channels, allowing the body’s own healing mechanisms to come into play. And much, much more.

I have three kids, and they’ve all grown up in and around Scientology. They have managed to avoid most of the pitfalls that I’ve seen some other children fall into -- drugs, illiteracy, immorality. Knowing the reasons behind these phenomena and what to do about them, my kids have the tools to really survive well in this world. That gives me a great sense of security as a mom. I also have a wonderful, loving marriage that is in its 22nd year and still going strong!

Another love of my life is music. I am currently in the Church of Scientology Choir and Celebrity Centre Chorale. We perform throughout the greater Los Angeles area. For the past several years, we have appeared in the Christmas Eve celebration held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. We have also appeared with other local choirs in the annual Easter sunrise services held at the Hollywood Bowl. And of course, we sing frequently at Sunday Services held by the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre, at Franklin and Bronson in Hollywood.

I know that without Scientology, the various roles I play in the game of life would be a lot tougher, not nearly as much fun -- no matter my good intentions, kind heart, and worthwhile goals.

As for the future, I have just completed my training as a Volunteer Minister and will be providing assistance to those in need on an ongoing basis. My goal is to improve the quality of life for individuals in my workplace, in my community, and wherever else they may be. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a fellow being get back on his feet and seeing him experience a renewed zest in living. When stress is relieved, the being blossoms.

     So that’s me in a nutshell![End]
