ello, my name is Dave Arnold, and here is a little bit about myself:
I got into Scientology almost 25 years ago. I had always thought that man was evolving away from his animal cousins towards some form of pure spirit. I knew that man used some minor percent of his brain-power, and it sure seemed evident to me with all the madness going on in the world that he wasn't using very much at all. Thinking as a fully evolved spiritual being must be the answer to that problem.
There was one problem with the evolution theory. We didn't have time to invest another million generations worth of time to get to that state of ultimate spirituality -- we were headed towards oblivion at break-neck speed! How were we supposed to pull this off?
Like many of my generation, I thought the answer was in the mystical, magicalness of drugs. I was on this evolutionary detour for many years before I realized it was a dead-end. Lots of sensations, little applicability to anything having to do with life.
When I first heard about Scientology from a friend of mine, I laughed. I told him, "You have to find your own way, man", "Some guy can't solve all your problems" and "You've been fooled". His response? "What do YOU know?" I didn't get mad; I knew he was right. What DID I know? I certainly didn't know anything about Scientology. What was I afraid of? Answers?
Well, 25 years later I can honestly say I found the answer to my evolution problem. It took some looking, though. I read many of L. Ron Hubbard's books. I heard a lot of cynical people say a lot of nasty things to me (just like I did at first!), but I decided to decide for myself by doing a course. It was the best decision I ever made.
Scientology is an APPLIED religious philosophy. It is for use. Every day, I use it to get myself, my family, my friends, my associates and mankind further away from that brink of oblivion and closer to something that resembles safe and sane survival.
