ello, my name is Hossam Ramzy, and here is a little bit about myself:

     I was born in Cairo, Egypt. My musical career began early, when at the age of three I was given my first drum - an Egyptian tabla! My passion - and talent - was noted by my family many of whom were also involved in the arts.

     They encouraged me to master my craft and I studied under leading Cairo music teachers. As a young man I moved to Saudi Arabia and joined many Bedouin tribes which gave me a rich insight into the cultural origins of Middle Eastern music, which became an inspiration for many of my later rhythmic directions.

     In the mid 1970's I came to England and enjoyed great success as a Jazz drummer working with many respected jazz musicians like Andy Sheperd and Geoff Williams. However I began to look for new dimensions in percussive sounds and found myself turning full circle back to my first love - Egyptian drums! - and the thrilling dance rythms of the Middle East. The distinctive sounds of the tabla and the exciting rythms of egypt captured on my albums caught the imagination of Peter Gabriel and I was invited to perform on PASSION and later US. I have also just completed working on Peter's new unreleased album. I have also been working with Joan Armatrading and Mari Wilson.

     In 1994 I was honoured to be invited by two of the greatest rock legends - Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (Led Zepplin) - to bring together a band of Arabian musicians to work on their reunion album 'No Quarter - Unledded'. This led to me joining them on their historic reunion 1995/96 world tour. I have also collaborated on the sound tracks of the following films: Star Gate, Wings of A Dove, The Saint, The Hunchback of Notre Damme, Steeling Beauty, The Last Temptation of Christ.
