If you want to find out more about Dianetics and Scientology, the best way to do this is to read an L. Ron Hubbard book on the subject. I personally recommend you read Scientology: A New Slant on Life.
I have really enjoyed all of Ron's basic books. The Fundamentals of Thought was wonderful and I gained so much insight into how to develop understanding with other people from that book.
The Way to Happiness is a great book about what it takes to really achieve happiness in life. The guidelines in this book are so very helpful at putting the inportance's right and focusing attention on what I need to do to really be satisfied and happy with my life.
But I guess the book that changed my life the most was A New Slant on Life. The chapter on the "Two Rules to Happy Living" gave me an outlook on life I had never had before. The two rules are:
1. Be able to experience anything. and
2. Cause only those things which others are able to experience easily.
For one thing this made me examine my outlook as to being afraid to experience certain things and how it cut my reach into areas of life because of my fear. Being able to experience doesn't mean I have to experience things, but being able to takes the fear away and allows me to live more freely. And what is really funny is that when I'm not afraid of something happening, it usually doesn't happen, the fear tends to pull in bad things. A dog will attack a person he thinks is afraid of him, but if that same person isn't afraid of him he will sense it and won't attack. So being able to experience anything can actually make it so that you don't end up experiencing as many bad things in life.
Causing only those things which others are able to experience easily is a very general way of keeping one's actions ethical. It goes beyond just "Do unto others as you would have then do unto you". Because some things you might not take as much offense at as maybe your loved one might, but you know your loved one could not experience that easily, so even if you could experience it, you would find it best not to cause something that your loved one really can't experience easily - particularly if you want to be on good terms with that person. You might not mind being hit in the face with a water balloon, but your wife might be horrified because it would run her makeup and mess up her hair. So even if you wouldn't mind her doing it to you, it would be best if you want to be happy not to hit her in the face with a water balloon. I have found this very useful in marriage.
