When I was little, all I wanted to do was to be a singer. I would memorize the jingles on TV commercials from when I was 3 or 4 and when my parents got me a transistor radio when I was 6, it never left my side. I surprised my friends (and myself) one day by singing the background vocals to a song I'd never heard before.
By the time I was a teenager, I would come home from school and practice singing 2 or 3 hours a day. That's all I wanted to do. The only problem - I was super shy. I could sing with a choir or with a group of other people where I wasn't the featured performer but NO WAY could I get in front of people by myself! No way.
The first course I did in Scientology was the Communication Course. There a person learns about the component parts of communication. What a true communication consists of. What's different about this type of communication course is that it's super practical. Not a bunch of thinkingness or grand "inspirational" talks to get you "motivated".
It seemed more like studying about how a carburetor works or doesn't work. Just like studying how a carburetor or an engine works, you've got to be able to take it apart and know what each part is and what it does. If you don't know what it's made of you'll never be able to keep it running at it's peak or repair it when it breaks.
The same holds true with communication.
And that's what I learned. The first thing you learn how to do is to be there comfortably in front of someone. Now tell me if that wouldn't help the stage fright!!
I went from being SO shy that I couldn't stand to be on a stage fronting a band to trying it (quite a stretch for me - and I was scared to death but I tried it!) to becoming a big ham! Now I can and have performed in front of thousands of people and love it! I just recently returned from recording in Nashville and will be returning there by the end of the summer to finish my recording project so to get it off to the labels. I wouldn't have been able to have accomplished this without what I've learned and have been able to apply in Scientology.
