ello, my name is Lucy Beckley Cole, and here is a little bit about myself:
I was raised in the suburbs of New York City, the eldest of five children. After two years at Middlebury College in Vermont, I transferred to Stanford University in California, graduating with a degree in History. One year's post-graduate study earned me a certificate in physical therapy; which I practiced at the New York University Medical Center, the Schlierbach Orthopedische Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, and the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
While at this last job, I met someone at a wedding reception who told me about Scientology and the Reactive Mind. He told me that painful incidents from my past were stored in my reactive mind; and that when something in the present reminded me of those incidents (usually without my realizing it), it could cause me to react - or overreact - to the present time situation in an inappropriate way. I found this data interesting, but didn't think too much about it.
Shortly thereafter, my German boyfriend came to New York to visit. One evening we said goodnight at the subway station, where he was going to catch a train to where he was staying. As the subway pulled away from the platform, I felt a deep sense of loss - which was silly, as I was going to see him the next day. I suddenly realized, "Oh, THAT'S the "Reactive Mind" that Eric was talking about!" I became aware of how much it affected me - and very interested in ridding myself of those unpleasant effects!
Eric took me to the New York Church of Scientology, where I had an introductory session with a Scientology auditor ("auditor" = "one who listens" [a counselor]) I found this very interesting, so signed up for the beginning course in communication. This course took me five evenings to complete. I had great fun with it all the way through; but during the fourth evening, I suddenly realized how much I had been learning all the while that I was having
fun!
