Before I found out about Scientology in 1969 I was taking drugs and was a miserable, unhappy person. I was trouble for myself and trouble for others. The irony is that the drugs did not cure my condition, but only made it worse. I could not see that I was causing the trouble. The drugs buried this fact from view. Were it not for Scientology, I would have never found this out.

     With the help of Scientology I got off drugs and embarked on a study of personal ethics and the cause and handling of suppression as it related to my life. I also received Scientology pastoral counselling that helped me see where I had harmed others and as a result had checked myself out of the human race. I found out that I was seriously out of communication with all of life around me. By my bad actions against others I had individuated (separated myself) from everyone else. I found myself in a horrible condition. I was living life totally unable to participate, always at a distance, never in touch and completely out of control. I would compulsively commit harmful acts and deny any responsibility for them. I couldn't possibly see what I was doing. I wasn't even there at all. I was a "wind up doll" -- a machine.

     I would have corrected my behavior naturally if I only could have seen it. But the hidden factor was that I was operating on hidden false and evil purposes I had unwittingly assumed. These hidden purposes were prompting me to commit harmful acts. Have you ever done something you later realized was wrong and wondered why it was you couldn't seem to help doing it? Then you did it again...and again? Pretty soon you just give up!

     Scientology pastoral counselling addressed these hidden false purposes directly head-on and they blew! I not only got into communication with life around me, but I also realized this technology can set all of man free. This technology makes honest people who can lead happy lives.

     Imagine what it is like being a judge, trying to get criminals to take responsibility for their actions. That has to be the most frustrating job in the world. I know that this technology will help those who want to help themselves. This is the technology that will rehabilitate the criminal. I know. Although I was not an overt criminal, my actions were nevertheless destructive and of the same nature.

     We don't need more police, more prisons, more punishment, more revenge. We don't need more "systems". There is no "system" that will handle criminality. Although we as a society do need temporary protection from others who would cause us harm, you won't stop crime and dishonesty permanently until you can make honest people -- for real.

     Scientology has also given me skills and confidence in handling life. The study technology has given me the skills to learn subjects on my own. I can read about a subject and directly apply the knowledge I have learned. I went from being a letter carrier for the US Postal Service to running a business of my own where I have been able to earn a comfortable living.

     I know that this is another area we need to handle in society. If a person cannot read or write or understand the written or spoken word, he is effectively cut off from most of life. This can aggravate peoples lives and make it difficult if not impossible to survive and get along. People need to be included. If people feel excluded it can lead to desperation and criminality. One thing I realized through Scientology spiritual counselling and study is that we as a society cannot exclude anyone. The person you cast aside today will become your enemy tomorrow.

     Through Scientology pastoral counseling and study I have handled barriers that held me back and kept me from winning in life. Scientology has answered questions for virtually all aspects of life...interpersonal relations, working with groups, predicting human behavior and identifying both antisocial personalities as well as social personalities.

     I have made many friends in Scientology and I am continually making new friends.
