ello, my name is Paul Barter, and here is a little bit about myself:

     I was born in Italy, raised in England, spent two years in Zambia, seven in Denmark, so where else could I move to than the new frontier civilization of South Africa?

      I graduated in Engineering from the University of Sheffield - mostly because I wanted to watch my soccer team every Saturday.

      Previous to that I had been fortunate in attending one of the most famous old schools in England - "Christ's Hospital" Bluecoat school. This was situated only a few miles from East Grinstead in Sussex. I didn't know it at the time, but L. Ron Hubbard was living at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead at that time busily researching the spiritual technology of Scientology that would become a major part of my life.

      I was on contract with the copper mines in Zambia in 1976. As secretary of the sailing association for the class of dinghy I was sailing, I had two places accepted for Zambia to participate in the World Championship of that year, to be held in Denmark. Since a friend and myself had completed working contracts that summer, we accepted the two places and proceeded to Denmark to participate.

      I found the international level of sailing disappointing - no co-operation between contestants, very unfriendly, coming from the club racing we had enjoyed in Zambia. I also found the Danish gale force winds far too strong for my light frame! In Zambia we were used to sailing in windless airs, where the skill was to steal every puff of wind we could find. So I withdrew from the championship and went to the town of Aarhus, where I took a communication course at the local Scientology franchise.

      After leaving Zambia I had decided I would get out of engineering - Zambia was dying, engineering was dying there. After travelling to London and spending two months receiving Dianetics and Scientology auditing, I realized that I could make a success of life in any field I chose - even engineering!

      I came to South Africa in 1984 with nothing. Today I run an expanding local branch of an international refrigeration company, have built up a secure future and have a great family. Furthermore, I know where I am going in life.

      What I have found out is that L. Ron Hubbard discovered the rules of life and whenever you are doing something that is successful, you find it is also a part of Scientology.
