ello, my name is Richard Melrose, and here is a little bit about myself:
I first contacted Scientology while an art student in college. A girlfriend of mine referred a friend of hers, who had just gotten out of the Air Force and was looking for a room, to me. He turned out to be a Scientologist and gave me some literature to read. That lead to a reading of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, which answered some fundamental questions I had about life and the mind as nothing I had ever contacted before had done.
I had always known that there was an aspect of my mind that operated outside of my own awareness and control but had never been satisfied with glib theoretical or mystical explanations about repressed memories or demons. I wanted to know how this unknown mind got there, and what was in it, and I wanted to be able to verify this data for myself. The Dianetic information about the Reactive Mind, recorded during moments of pain and unconsciousness, and the "auditing" technology which enabled the individual to examine the contents of this mode of mind and thereby convert it to rational functioning satisfied me on an intellectual level. What convinced me of the validity of these theories was the experience of actually applying the methods and observing the results. The technology worked exactly as Mr. Hubbard said it would.
Later I changed my major to electronics and finished out in that and continued my interest in Hubbard's the investigations into the field of the spirit, which apparently grew out of the discoveries and effectiveness of Dianetics. Having gotten to the roots of the Reactive Mind and succeeded in eliminating it, Mr. Hubbard discovered that at the source of all the complexity was a creative spiritual being who was unknowingly producing all the phenomena that was being observed. It was this fortunate fact that explained how the individual could recover from the effects of his own bad judgement or foolishness.
But beyond that, it was also discovered to be true that this same individual was capable of creating conditions of life and living that were far more admirable than any that he had ever dreamed of having anyone else create for him. He could, for example, create a better marriage than he could ever expect good fortune or a perfect partner to provide. The same native ability was discovered to be latent in every other field of human endeavor to which his reason and purpose might carry him. The potential benefit of these possibilities for myself and for humanity interested me greatly. In my 36 years of experience with Dianetics and Scientology, I have not been disappointed. I am convinced by the results I have obtained for myself, and been able to produce in others, that these technologies are the best practical hope for survival and spiritual rehabilitation that the human race has.
After a career which has involved music, art, electronics (including work on the Mariner Mars space program) and business management, as well as contributions to the establishment of Scientology service organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, I am currently active as a minister making contributions to the whole network of Scientology churches and missions, particularly in northern California.
