ello, my name is Ron Ross, and here is a little bit about myself:
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan very fond of music but spent most of my academic career heading in the direction of numbers. I was a math major at the University of Michigan, but graduated from the Business School as an Accounting major. I worked in California as an accountant for several years, but switched to the more interesting field of investments. I have worked as a stockbroker since 1972, and I do enjoy the challenge. I was with Prudential Securities for 11 years, and since 1994 I have been associated, as an independent broker, with GBS Financial Corp in Sherman Oaks, California.
My first love is still music, and I frequently compose songs and instrumental pieces on piano and synthesizers. I think I definitely got better at this creative process as a result of Scientology. One of my Christmas songs has been performed by three different choirs and several individual singers in the Los Angeles area, as well as in Florida. Another song I wrote was used on television in conjunction with KCET (L.A. PBS(Public Broadcasting System) TV station)'s twentieth anniversary in 1984.
I have also been somewhat successful as an actor, a career which evolved from singing my comedy songs in 1980-1981. I have appeared in numerous TV episodes as a guest star or featured player, including "Night Court", "Hill Street Blues" and "Seinfeld". I have appeared in featured roles in several films, including "Forget Paris" with Billy Crystal and "Boys Next Door" with Charlie Sheen and Maxwell Caulfield.
I was married but am currently divorced. I live in a lovely little house in Studio City where I have been since 1982 and which I share with my son Ari, who also is an actor--but he does it full time and is very good at what he does--especially voice work. We have a pool, a big old pepper tree out in front, and are on a very quiet dead-end street; yet we're close to everything--freeways, shopping, movie studios, etc.
For recreation I play tennis twice a week and, being very fond of ragtime music, I attend ragtime clubs and festivals whenever I can. My favorite such venture is the West Coast Ragtime Festival that occurs every November on a three-day weekend in Sacramento.
I'm a bit of a sports nut, gravitating to the local teams (Lakers, Dodgers, occasionally the Angels, now and then the Kings); but get caught up in big playoff games, especially when there's a good matchup--such as this year's Super Bowl (1998) and last year's World Series.
A couple of different people introduced me to Scientology back in the late 60's. The first book they gave me was Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. Later I learned about the Communications Course, and once I had made a big breakthrough on that course, I knew there was something there for me. It has continued to be true as I have gone along in Scientology--always something to learn and improve life with. I've found the courses as well as the auditing to almost always be enlightening and fun. I find the people I meet in Scientology to be sane and friendly, almost without exception. It's a very comfortable feeling, which I don't always get with everyone I meet.
