ello, my name is Sam Farias, and here is a little bit about myself:
I found out about Scientology when I was a teenager, from an uncle, who taught my father and I some of its principles. Something about what I learned seemed really right and I knew I was onto something. Unfortunately, part of what my uncle explained was incorrect; he incorrectly defined one of the words used in Scientology, which led to my misunderstanding the subject and being somewhat turned off about it. My dad, though, kept up his interest and study of it and would from time to time strongly suggest I read a book on the subject.
About a decade later, I found myself in need of some answers; answers to life's big question's: Who or what are we? Why are we? I had been studying neurobiology in graduate school and realized that I wouldn't find the answers I needed there. The whole subject was based on the unproven theory that man is basically a brain, a machine. The whole thing was quite depressing and I decided to give up that subject.
That's when I remembered the book my dad had given me (Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health). What I read rang very true, and I decided to try the techniques in the book. These techniques required a second person, though, which I didn't have, so I went to the library and got another book, Self Analysis, which I could use on my own. I was so astounded by what happened when I used Self Analysis, that I went to the local Scientology Mission and asked to do a course, and asked if I could help them out. I knew I had found Truth, and everything I learned thereon reinforced that
realization.
